Post 50: Putting Community into Course Design
"The learning community has more ways to develop when learners
participate in a variety of learning experiences. Many students enjoy
the opportunity to brainstorm concepts and work through assignments with
one or two or more fellow students, particularly when they don't gather
in a physical space very often. At the same time many students really
enjoyed working and learning independently. Building in options and
opportunities for students to work together and individually is a key
characteristics of good learning design writing gives students ways of
tapping into their own varied skills and abilities" (Conrad, 50)
When I design an online class, I always give a variety of assignments
forums and lessons. When I develop my class lessons I write my lessons
in away so that students of all learning modalities can relate to the
lesson. I would have an audio recording of my lesson for audio learners.
I would have a video lecture for the visual learners and at the end of
the unit I would have some kind of hands-on project for the hands-on
learners. Good classroom design means that you are able to relate your
lessons assignments and forums to students of all learning modalities.
