Bloom's Taxonomy
We want to create a learner centered class. As a result, the focus of the class is on how the learner forms a concept. Learning is not a one time event. Learning is a gradual process of mastery from beginning to advanced. In the beginning, the learner struggles learning the vocabulary of the topic. Learners memorize the basic vocabulary of a new field. Then, the teacher gives the student a quiz to make sure the learner has memorized the vocabulary. By the very end of the unit, when students gain complete mastery, then the learner can defend the ideas and create something new with this concept.
Level I Knowledge
Memorization, Defining Terms, Matching Terms, Multiple Choice Tests=-This is the most basic of the learning concepts.
Level II Understanding
Demonstrate understanding of facts by comparing, interpreting, summariizng.
Level III: Application
Solve problems in a new situation by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques.
Level IV Analysis
Examine and break information into parts by identifying motives and causes.
Level V Synthesis
Compile information together in a new way.
Level VI Evaluation
Present and defend opinions by making judgements about information and validity of ideas.
Each level of knowledge from beginning to advanced with Level I being the very beginning of knowledge and Level VI being the complete mastery and application of knowledge in a new way never seen before, has its own keywords and questions all on this PDF.

You can use Bloom's Taxonomy to write your Program, Class and Lesson Objectives. You can also use Bloom's to fashion your Forum Discussions as well. At the beginning of the unit, you use the questions from Level I and then as students become more acquainted with that unit, then you progress to Levels 2-6. See the PDF for more details. I will write about how you can use Bloom's Taxonomy for your Forum Discussion Questions and for writing your objectives in a later post.
