Post 382: Why did I become a teacher?
Every day, I would learn French with my favorite language teacher, Ms G. She had her classroom decorated with French posters, French sayings and French newspapers and magazines. In the classroom, she displayed her enthusiasm for the French language. I loved the sound of French and I loved taking her class. Ms G had learned her French by teaching English in France. I decided when I grew up I was going to be a foreign language teacher just like Ms G. I became an ESL/French/English Teacher to teach English abroad in other countries, to learn about new cultures, and as an outlet for my creativity.
I wanted to teach English abroad, so I majored in English as a Second Language/Applied Linguistics. I studied how to teach reading, writing and English grammar to international students.
I wanted to learn about new cultures. I wanted to travel to many countries and learn new cultures. I also wanted to meet international students from other cultures. I ended up teaching ESL to these international students from China, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, and Persia.
I wanted to be a teacher as an outlet for my creativity. I love to create student lessons and I love to use my creativity to teach students to see my students succeed.
For me, becoming a teacher has been a life-changing activity. I have met students from all over the world. I have met students who are in the military, students of all ages, and I have enjoyed teaching English and French to my students throughout the years.
