Do you get a standard boring classroom month after month? Do all the online classrooms look the same?
Don't you want to spruce up your online classroom to fit your creative personality? Well, I use word clouds to spruce up my online classroom.
1. Word Clouds can be included in your class lectures.
2. Word Clouds can be used in your weekly summaries.
3. Word Clouds can be used in your announcements.
4. Word Clouds can be used in your forum posts.
You can create fun word clouds based on the core concepts you are teaching for that work to help students reinforce whatever skill or ideas you want students to learn.
For instance, I created these word clouds for my Personal Branding project on my Teaching Portfolio. I gathered adjectives from my faculty and student testimonials to create the positive adjectives in the word clouds. So, as you can see, word clouds are a fun, whimsical and creative way for students to learn core concepts in your class or even for personal branding.
I had so much fun creating word cloud shapes, I made quite a few others with the Word Art word cloud generator. Since I am a writing teacher, I thought this pencil shape would be most apt. These shapes are found on the Word Art Word Cloud page. You just insert your words into the shape and press the Visualization button and there it appears!
Here are some more examples of Word Art Generator Word Clouds I created for fun. I used to decorate my online classrooms in this kind of whimsical way and students loved it!
You will have just as much fun as I have in making the Word Clouds to decorate your online classroom. When I look at this word cloud, I think of all the discipline it takes to do online work and it also reminds the reader that I am a great teacher and a hard working devoted to my students teacher!
I like this splash one because it reminds me of my artistic side. When I introduce myself in the online classroom and tell students I like painting, I can use this word cloud or if I tell employers on my teaching portfolio website that I am creative and at the same time I want to reinforce the idea that I am a great teacher, I can use this splash of paint word cloud.
Instead of just telling students, they are a star student, why not create a word cloud class badge that has all the positive adjectives in it to describe that star student in your class?
Have I convinced you all to use Word Clouds in your online classrooms? If so, raise your hands or write a comment in the comment box to tell me so!
