Post 323: Colorful Word Clouds for Your Online Classroom

Colorful Word Clouds For Your Online Classroom

I am gradually learning how to use Word Art. I am learning the application by just playing around with it. I learned how to make the background of the word cloud black and to use many different shapes. In the following word cloud, I talk about what I will be teaching in a typical online English Composition class.

You can use Word Clouds for the following:

1. Decorate your online classroom.

2. Dress up your Announcements, Class Lectures, and Forum posts.

3. Praise students for their good work.

4. Praise the class for their great teamwork on their Peer Review Exercise.

Have fun transforming your drab online classrooms to add your personality to the class!  No graphic design experience needed! Word Art is made for us novices!

I give examples of each in these fun and easy to make word clouds at the Word Art website.

Here is another word cloud in which I am learning how to use the Shape tool in Word Art. I used the shape of a star.  I used the same words as in the previous word cloud.  As you can see, you can really dress up your class lecture with these word clouds or you can dress up your announcements with these colorful word clouds. This will really get your students to read your announcements, or class lectures!

You can also  give praise to students who are doing well in your class. In this following example, I give praise to a student named Pat for having participated a lot in the forums. So these word clouds can be used as a kind of class badge that you can individualize for the student.
In this last example, I have a word cloud with no background. When I was studying graphic design, when you have no background, this is known as a vector background which allows for a transparent looking word cloud in your online classroom.  With this last example, I am thanking the entire class for their great work on their peer review exercise.
